IRNA -- Iran's Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi said on Monday that the upcoming visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to Tehran will help broaden economic relations between the two countries.


Speaking to IRNA, Masjedi said the upcoming regional tour of the Iraqi premier will take him to three countries in the region, and it will open a new chapter in expansion of economic cooperation with Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran powerfully supports the Iraqi government and nation in dealing with security, political and economic challenges, Masjedi said.

The Iranian ambassador said that Al-Abadi's visit will take place in line with the exchange of visits between the two sides' officials and delegations.

The Iraqi prime minister will confer with Iran's high-ranking officials on issues of mutual interest and regional developments as well, he said.

Iraq plays significant role in regional developments and everyone is aware of its role in fighting terrorism, Masjedi said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls for resolution of regional disputes through talks and cooperation, he added.

Iraqi premier kicked off his regional tour on Monday and on the first leg of his trip he went to Saudi Arabia and the second and third legs of his trip will take him to Iran and Kuwait.
