Terrorism, sign of impotence of terror masterminds: Iran Deputy FM

June 11, The Iran Project - Iran’s deputy foreign minister says resorting to terrorism reveal the cowardliness, impotence and frustration of the puppeteers who pull the strings of terrorists that target innocent people.

Addressing a group of activists of virtual environment on Saturday, Abbas Araqchi said that killing innocent people showed the frustration of the masterminds of the terrorist cells who have failed to achieve their objectives. Araqchi made the comments in reference to the twin terrorist attacks in Iran’s capital, Tehran, that led to the death of 17 and injury of dozens of people on June 7.

The armed attackers targeted the building of parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to iran’s Intelligence Ministry, the five assailants were of Iranian origin and affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) who had fought in Syria and Iraq.

Araqchi added that fight with ISIS would have been taken into Iran’s territory If not for the powerful presence of Tehran in Syria and the bravery of Iranian forces fighting in Syria and Iraq. The Iranian official said the recent terrorist attack, though unfortunate, demonstrated the reality of insecurity plagues Syria and Iraq everyday.

“Even though our hearts are bleeding because of the death of our countrymen, but we should appreciate the blessing [of security] and express [our] gratitude to the military and security forces who provide us with security,” Araqchi explained.
