Iran's new envoy submits copy of credentials to Iraqi FM

IRNA – Iran's new Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi submitted copy of his credentials to Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari here on Wednesday.

During the meeting, al-Jaafari referred to Iran’s support for the Iraqis in two periods of time, once against Saddam regime dictatorship and confrontation with Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, and said that Iraqi nation will never forget Iranian supports.

He welcomed new Iranian envoy to Iraq, and said that Iran had always stood beside the Iraqi government and nation during hard times.

Referring to old and deep cultural and historical relations between the two neighboring countries, Masjedi called for strengthening and developing bilateral cooperation.

Considering plenty of capacities in all fields, Masjedi expressed hope that the two states witness expansion of relations, especially in economy.

The two sides also discussed bilateral ties, fight against terrorism as well as the latest situation in the region.

Masjedi arrived in Baghdad on Tuesday and was welcomed by staff of Iran’s embassy in Baghdad and officials from Iraq Foreign Ministry.
