Zarif confers issues of mutual interest with Turkmenistan president

IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confered issues of mutual interest and bilateral relations with Turkmenistan President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on Monday.


Zarif and Berdymukhamedov discussed also the latest regional and international developments.

Iranian foreign minister is scheduled also to meet with Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Moradov afterwards.

Zarif and the delegation accompanying him will also attend the Iran-Turkmenistan trade forum held in the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The foreign minister will leave Ashgabat for Tbilisi on Monday evening and Bishkek is the last leg of his Central Asian tour.

On the objectives of Iranian delegation visit to the three countries, Zarif said upon arrival, “We have potential for transit cooperation with Georgia to connect Black Sea to the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean, a very desirable way for future of transit.”

As to Foreign Ministry’s major programs including those in the current visit to the three countries, he said that export of technical and engineering services is also on the agenda.

The trip takes place on the eve of the 25th independence anniversary of these countries and 25 years after Iran’s diplomatic ties with them, he said, noting both occasions will be observed in the three countries.

On the probability of signing memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and accords in the upcoming talks, Zarif said, “We have inked many MoUs with these countries and we will endeavor to implement them.”

Over 20 businessmen and representatives of companies are accompanying Zarif in his three-day official visit.
