Spokesman: Iran welcomes talks with PGCC

19 Dec 2016 - 17:19

FNA- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced that his country welcomes talks with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council as news reports said that Kuwait seeks to send a representative to Tehran on behalf of the PGCC.

"We have heard that Kuwait is willing to send an envoy to Iran but I don’t know how much he would represent the PGCC countries," Qassemi told reporters in his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday.

"Any positive step by these countries will face Iran's positive response," he added.

Qassemi, meantime, said that no date has yet been menqassetioned for the Kuwaiti official's visit.

Earlier this month, Iran said the PGCC must stop leveling groundless allegations against Tehran.

Qassemi made the comments in reaction to the final declaration of the 37th annual summit of the PGCC, comprising Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain, in the Bahraini capital of Manama.

He also dismissed as groundless allegations by the PGCC declaration about Iran’s interference in the internal affairs of regional countries.

“The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries,” he said.
