TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a Sunday ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s Defense Ministry displayed components of Bavar-373, a homegrown long-range air defense missile system, including its launchers and fire-control radar.

Bavar-373, designed and manufactured by Iranian experts, was put on display in Tehran on Sunday, when the president went to the Defense Ministry's Aerospace Industries Organization to visit the latest military products developed by local experts in the aeronautical sphere.

Images of the Iranian missile system demonstrate the square shape of the final version of its launchers, as opposed to the initial cylindrical shape.

A distinguishing feature of Bavar-373 is its vertical launching system with square launchers, mostly used for air defense on warships.

Photos of President Rouhani’s Sunday visit also show the missile system’s radar on display. Bavar-373 uses a long-range, phased array fire-control radar, dubbed Me’raj-4.

The air defense system reportedly employs three different types of missiles to hit targets at various altitudes.

A locally-produced super heavy military vehicle, known as Zoljanah, carries the launchers of the Iranian air defense system.

Iranian military technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
