Iran eyes neighbor markets for ‘smell detection kit’ exports

25 Jun 2016 - 15:01

TEHRAN, Jun. 25 (MNA) – Iran is looking for potential markets in neighboring countries to export its domestically-built smell identification test kits, for assessing chemosensory function.

Safa Taherkhani, the project manager, told Mehr News correspondent that these kits are the first standard tool in Iran for a quantitative assessment of the olfactory ability, adding “the smell identification kit has been designed as a simple test that shows whether or not the individual’s sense of smell is impaired.”

“Predicting central nervous system diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, detection of malingering in loss of ability to smell in forensic institutes, assessing developmental disorders such as autism and hyperactivity in children, are among the various applications of these kits,” he said.

Taherkhani maintained that currently his team are trying to find markets for the product across the country and are planning to export it to neighboring countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey and Arab states.

“After the market for the kits has been established in the country, we will take the next step by preparing the export process, which will be possible next year,” he said.
