The European Union intends to send a delegation to Iran which will act as the bloc’s representatives via the embassy of the Netherlands, local media reported Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the Tasnim news agency, the European Union will send the delegation of diplomats to Tehran in the coming weeks, signifying its members’ intentions to actively develop economic relations with Iran.
Earlier this month, High Representative of the European Union Federica Mogherini visited Iran and discussed issues of bilateral cooperation with Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif.
In July 2015, Tehran and six international mediators, including Russia, reached a historic deal on the Iranian nuclear program to ensure its peaceful nature in exchange for the suspension of the anti-Iran sanctions, in particular on its oil sector.
In mid-January, the sanctions were removed after the International Atomic Energy Agency verified Tehran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement. The move makes it possible for Iran to develop relations in various spheres with the European Union.
