Iran acquires membership to ICCROM council

Tehran, November 21, The Iran Project- Iran acquired the membership of ICCROM's council, an organization created by UNESCO proposal.

Following the 29th General Assembly of the international center for Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) in Rome, delegates from 134 member states elected Iran as the member of the body's council.

Members of ICCROM’s Council are elected from among the most qualified experts in the conservation-restoration field worldwide.

Mohamad Hassan Talebian, Iran's deputy-head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization stated that appointing Iran as an ICCROM member can effectively contributes its role preservation and conservation of the global cultural heritages' .

134 Member states convened in Rome from 18 to 20 November 2015 at the 29th General Assembly to discuss the organization’s future directions. The Assembly's session is annually held at the ICCROM headquarters in Rome.

As one of the Advisory Bodies nominated in the 1972 Convention for the protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage worldwide through training, information, research, cooperation and advocacy programs.

It primarily aims to enhance the field of conservation-restoration and raise awareness to the importance and fragility of cultural heritage.
