TEHRAN, Aug. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s former FM met Chinese diplomat Deng Li and appreciated China’s support in the course of anti-Iran sanctions.

The Head of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati met with Director General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Deng Li on Tuesday.

Iranian veteran diplomat said that in certain periods of time in the course of the history, the two countries could not make decisions for themselves, but today they are independent and fully determined to take steps in this regard.

Velayati said that visits to Tehran and Beijing by Chinese and Iranian officials indicated the significance of ties between the two capitals.

Referring to the Silk Road Plan and other plans for bilateral cooperation, he said that the two countries are seriously cooperating on issues that need appropriate planning.

Also on Russia delivering S-300 defense system to Iran, Velayati asserted that Iran would take advantage of any legal measure to defend its sovereignty and security.

Velayati said that BRICS - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) provide two other areas for cooperation between Iran and China.
