Iran denies chamber of commerce with US

18 Aug 2015 - 10:00

Iran has denied media reports about plans to set up a joint chamber of commerce with the US after the conclusion of nuclear talks last month.

In a statement, Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines said no measure has been taken yet for establishing such an entity, adding any reports to the contrary “lacked any legal basis”.

The rebuttal comes after media reports that the Iran-US joint chamber of commerce could be established in Iran within two months.

US companies, including ConocoPhillips which left Iran in 1995 due to sanctions, have voiced interest to return to the country.

“Once we reach a stage when the problems have been solved and US companies can return to Iran, we will of course consider that,” ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan M. Lance said in June.

Iran’s Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh has said the country would welcome US companies in its oil projects.

US businesses, however, have to wait for the removal of sanctions that prevent them from investing in Iran.
