Iran hands suspended jail term to opposition figure’s son
Opposition figure Mehdi Karroubi's son has been handed a suspended six-month prison sentence for anti-regime conduct, Iran's Fars news agency reported on Wednesday quoting an unnamed source. Iran's "revolutionary court has sentenced Mohammad Hossein Karroubi to a six-month jail term... for disturbing public opinion against the Islamic regime through giving interviews to foreign media," Fars quoted the source as saying.
Iran vows no change in Syria ‘cooperation’
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed no change in Iran's staunch "cooperation" with Damascus, in talks with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi, reports said on Wednesday. "We hope that the plots and enmities against the Syrian nation will soon end and peace and security can be established in the country," Ahmadinejad said at the Tuesday night meeting, according to the official IRNA news agency.
UN experts, Iran begin talks on nuclear probe
Senior U.N. investigators have opened a new round of talks with Iranian officials in the hopes of restarting a probe into Iran's suspected work on nuclear arms. Iran's semiofficial ISNA news agency says the negotiations began at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran headquarters in Tehran Wednesday morning. It didn't provide any further details.

 
Ahmadinejad asks parliament to back subsidy cut plans
Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asked the country’s parliament to unify in the face of “enemy pressure” and to support the extension of a subsidy- reduction plan that started three years ago. Ahmadinejad has sought to implement a second phase of the plan, including a further rise in energy prices, before he steps down later this year, while parliament maintains the move would fuel inflation, which officially quickened to 27.4 percent last month.
Iran to unveil optimized tank on revolution anniversary
Commander of Iranian Army Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan says a tank optimized by Iranian military experts will be unveiled on the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. The general said on Tuesday that the inauguration of optimized Zolfaqar tank is timed to coincide with festivities marking the anniversary of the revolution in early February 2013.
