Call for fostering Iran-Russia naval ties

Anzali, Aug 10, IRNA - The commander of Iran’s fourth maritime zone in northern port city of Anzali Rear Admiral Afshin Rezaei Haddad held talks with the commander of the Russian fleet Capt Kirill Taranenko here on Sunday evening.

Admiral Haddad called for reinforcement of mutual cooperation between the naval forces of the two countries.
A Russian navy flotila docked at the northern Iranian port city of Anzali in a bid to boost friendly maritime ties between the two countries.
Haddad also went on to say that the Russian forces are scheduled to visit Iranian navy units in the area.
“Iranian forces will most likely pay a visit to Russia in mid-October,” he added.
'The Russian navy flotila consists of the two warships of Volgodonsk and Mahachkala,' Taranenko said, reiterating that the visit would continue for two days.
“The maritime relations between Russia and Iran will be expanded and we will proceed our official and unofficial visits to Iran,” Taranenko said.
He also voiced the Russia's readiness to hold a joint naval exercise during their stay.
Haddad also went on to say that the Russian forces are scheduled to visit Iranian navy units in the area.

This is the third trip of a Russian fleet to Anzali, with the first two being made in 2007 and 2014.
