26 Jul 2015 - 16:40

Kuwait, July 26, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met and conferred with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on Sunday.

During the meeting, he discussed bilateral as well as regional and international issues with the Emir.

He also reviewed ways of confronting terrorism and Takfiri groups with him.

Zarif conveyed Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's message of friendship and brotherhood to the Kuwaiti Emir.

Zarif is to attend a joint meeting with his Kuwaiti counterpart later on Sunday.

He will also take part in a press conference.

Zarif arrived in Kuwait on the first leg of a three-nation tour that will also take him to Qatar and Iraq.

Zarif left Tehran for Kuwait City on Sunday on the first leg of his tour of neighboring and Persian Gulf states after the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

In addition to briefing the high ranking officials of the three countries on the latest results of the nuclear talks, Zarif will also exchange views on bilateral relations and recent regional developments.

Iran and the P5+1 countries - the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany - finalized the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna on July 14, after 18 days of intense negotiations that capped around 23 months of talks between Iran and the six countries.

On July 20, the UN Security Council unanimously endorsed a draft resolution upholding the JCPOA. All 15 members of the body voted for the UN resolution in New York, setting the stage for the lifting of the Security Council sanctions against Iran.

During his stay in Kuwait, Zarif will also hold talks with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
