Gholamreza Miri, pointing to the increase in saffron export, said that statements about the decrease of saffron production are not proved yet as the harvest season has not finished.

Pointing to the increase of export, he announced that compared to last year, the export of saffron has increased both in volume and value up to 36 per cent “weighing up to 70,632 kilograms with a value worth of nearly 100 million dollars.”

Miri emphasized that all this export has been made from Mashhad, in Khorasan Razavi province in northeast of Iran and considering other saffron-producing cities, this number has to increase by 10 to 20 percent, hitting more than 50 percent increase by end of the Iranian year.

Most of world saffron is exported by Iran which has highest quality of saffron in the world. Iran now accounts for approximately 90% of the world production of saffron followed by Spain, Egypt, Kashmir, Morocco and Turkey.
