Busan Intl. Film Festival to screen 11 Iranian films

TEHRAN, Oct. 01 (MNA) – 11 film titles from Iran will be showcased at the 19th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.

11 Iranian filmmakers including Rakhshan Bani-Etemad, Kamal Tabrizi, Saman Salour, Narges Abyar and Neda Asef will have their films screened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea from October 2 to 11.


The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) which is held annually in South Korea is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia, introducing new films and first-time directors, especially those from Asian countries and developing and promoting young talent.


In this year’s edition, 313 films from 79 countries will be screened. Last year’s festival showcased 299 titles with a total audience of about 200,000. During these 19 years that the festival has been running, Iran has always had active presence and have had a number of Iranian films screened.


At the 'A Window to Asian Cinema' section of the festival, there are 58 titles from 28 countries, of which 7 titles are from Iran. A Few Cubic Meters of Love by Jamshid Mahmoudi, Tales by Rakhshan Bani-Etemad and Sun Station by Saman Salour are among the selected movies.


The festival will also present We Have a Guest by Mohammad Mehdi Asgarpour, Track 143by Narges Abyar, Daughter…Mother…Daughter by Panah-bar-Khoda Rezaei, and Sensitive Floor, a comedy drama directed by Kamal Tabrizi.


In the competitive section of ‘New Wave’, two Iranian films, Thirteen by Houman Saeedi and What Time Is It in Your World by Safi Yazdanian will be presented.


Short films Two Halves of True by Neda Asef and The Old Tree by Farnoush Abedi will also be screened at the Asian Short Film section.


Academy Award winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has been selected to preside over the jury for the 'New Currents' section at this year’s festival. Fatemeh Motamed-Aria will be one of the judges in the NETPAC section.


Farhadi will head the festival’s jury panel that is comprised of French philosopher Jacques Ranciere, Professor of film studies at the Scotland’s University of St. Andrews Dina Iordanova, Indian actress Suhasini Maniratnam, and Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.


Leading Iranian female filmmaker Rakhshan Bani-Etemad was also president of the jury panel of the section at the 2013 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).


The 2014 Busan International Film Festival will take place from October 2 to 11.
