President Rouhani confers with Afghan counterpart

Dushanbe, Sept 12, IRNA – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani conferred with Afghan President Hamed Karzai in a meeting on Friday.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.


The two presidents discussed latest regional and international developments including the presidential election in Afghanistan.

President Rouhani stressed importance of the presence of all Afghan political parties in the country's march toward democracy.

Iran is ready to develop all-out ties with Afghanistan and help the country in all fields, he added.

President Rouhani is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the SCO summit and meet the Russian President Vladimir Putin on the last day of his tour of the region.

He will also attend a luncheon to his honor by the Tajikistan parliament speaker.

Rouhani arrived in Tajikistan on Wednesday to attend the SCO summit in Dushanbe.

The 14th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) kicked off here in the Tajik capital on Friday morning.
