Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the United States must take a “political decision” to end the “current deadlock” in the ongoing talks in Vienna over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
Speaking to reporters in the Austrian capital city of Vienna on Tuesday, the Iranian minister said Washington needs to take a political decision about the available solutions and those solutions that will prepare the ground for an agreement.

Zarif made the remarks following three rounds of negotiations with US Secretary of State John Kerry, emphasizing that the United States needs to make a political decision to help break the stalemate over the nuclear issue.

He added that he held “good” discussions with Kerry and it is now for political experts to hold talks over serious topics.

The Iranian minister stated that the main goal of negotiating parties is to make efforts to end the existing “illogical” deadlock.

Zarif and Kerry have held three meetings in Vienna to help narrow differences between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – Russia, China, France, Britain and the US – plus Germany and reach a final deal on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Iran and the six countries kicked off their sixth round of talks this year in Vienna on July 3.

The two sides sealed an interim deal in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 23, 2013. The deal came into force in January and expires on July 20, but can be extended depending on the agreement of all parties involved.
