Al-Monitor | Arash Karami: Nearly a month after the Islamic State’s simultaneous attacks on Iran’s parliamentary building and the shrine of the founder of the Islamic Republic, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has made personnel changes for security and intelligence in Tehran.

On July 4, IRGC commander Mohammad Ali Jafari appointed Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Yazdi as commander of Greater Tehran’s Mohammad Rasulallah Guard Corps. Yazdi replaces Brig. Gen. Mohsen Kazemini, who held the position since 2012.

The Mohammad Rasulallah Guard Corps is responsible for coordinating activities in Tehran for both the IRGC and the Basij organization.

Kazemini was also the deputy commander of Sarallah Headquarters, which is responsible for security in Tehran. However, he was recently removed from his position. Ismail Kowsari, a former Iranian parliamentarian, was appointed the new deputy commander. As commander of the IRGC, Jafari is also the commander of Sarallah Headquarters.
