Speaking tostate-run IRAN newspaper, Hatami stated that Khamenei instructed both the country's regular armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) towithdraw frombusiness that is not directly affiliated withtheir work.

According toHatami, Khamenei instructed the armed forces and the IRGC toeither divest economic holdings onthe country's capital markets or sell them tothe private sector, according toa report byBloomberg.

The idea that the IRGC should decrease its share inthe state economy has been pursued byIranian President Hassan Rouhani sinceearly inhis first term inoffice.

While the IRGC is estimated tohave control overone third ofthe state economy, it is unlikely that the organization will withdraw entirely, asone ofits task is toassist and support the government onvarious projects atits request and this could take the shape ofeconomic activities a directive cemented inthe Islamic Republic's constitution.

"These tasks are ofanother nature and are inorder tohelp various sectors," Hatami said. "Depending onthe requirements ofthe government, this work can continue or it may not."

According toRadio Farda, the Khatam ol-Anbia, the country's major engineering arm and one ofIran's largest contractors inindustrial and development projects, will continue tooperate inthe construction sector, according tothe needs ofgovernment.
