France's Macron highlights importance of JCPOA to Netanyahu

Press TV - French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed the importance of maintaining Iran's nuclear accord during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"The president spoke of the importance of preserving the Iran nuclear deal, and the necessity for all parties to the agreement to respect the commitments they made," said a statement released by the Elysee Palace on Saturday.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump extended waivers of key economic sanctions on Iran for another 120 days but said he was doing so for the last time.

Although the US president declined to seize an opportunity to withdraw from the Iran deal which he has long railed against and formerly promised to rip up he gave a four-month deadline to US Congress and Americas main European allies to address what he called the disastrous flaws of the deal.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

On Thursday, Macron has told his Trump that all the signatories to the Irannuclear deal should respect the terms of the agreement.
