Kremlin calls for preserving Iran nuclear deal



Sputnik - The Kremlin considers it necessary to preserve existing agreements on the Iranian nuclear dossier, as they reflect the consensus of many parties, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday when asked what the Kremlin's attitude was to the extension of sanctions against Iran on the part of the United States.




"You know the position ofthe Russian side: we adhere toand are committed tothe idea ofthe need topreserve this agreement onthe Iranian nuclear dossier We believe that it is extremely important topreserve this consensus, viability ofthe document," Peskov said commenting onReuters reports that a regular freeze ofsanctions could be used bythe US side toimprove the document.

The statement ofthe spokesman comes afterEU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini confirmed onThursaday that the 2015 Iran dealwas delivering its main goalofkeeping the nuclear program incheck and said that the bloc expected all parties ofthe deal tocomply withcommitments underthe agreement.

The US State Department announced earlier this week that the US administration was expected todecide onextending the Iran sanctions waiver onFriday asTrump was facing a deadline onrecertifying the nuclear deal.

In October 2017, Trump refused tocertify that Iran was incompliance withthe agreement butstopped short ofpulling the United States outof the pact, prompting condemnation fromother members ofthe P5+1 that had brokered the historic deal.
