EU reiterates commitment to Iran nuclear deal after Trumps decision



Sputnik - EU authorities will consult with Germany, France and the United Kingdom about the US decision to waiver nuclear-related sanctions on Iran one last time but will stay in the pact, an EU spokesperson has said.




"As a first step, we will coordinate withthe E3 and the other EU Member States tojointly assess the statement and its implication," the Spokesperson ontheIran Nuclear Dealsaid ina statement onFriday.

The EU official stressed that the 28-nation union remains committed tothe "continued full and effective implementation" ofthe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction.

The JCPOA (the Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction) was signed in2015 byIran and the 5+1 group, six world powers China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany.

But US President Donald Trump said Friday he would allow forthe sanctions tobe suspended foranother 120 days while his country negotiates withEurope a fix forwhat he previously called the worst deal ever. Also onFriday, the United States imposed separatesanctionsona dozen Iranians and entities.

Earlier, a spokeswoman forGerman Foreign Ministry announced that Germany would consult EU partners ona common stance towardthe US decision towaiver sanctions.

"We have noted todays US announcement onthe IranianJCPOAnuclear deal," the spokeswoman said ina statement. "We are going toconsult withour European partners next todiscuss a common approach."

She said the German government would continue toadvocate the full implementation ofthe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction, a 2015 pact betweenTehran and six world powers that curbed Irans nuclear research inreturn forsanctions relief.
