Tehran marks first death anniversary of late senior cleric

IRNA – The first death anniversary of chairman of the Iranian Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was held in Tehran on Thursday with the participation of a number of senior officials.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, family members of the late Ayatollah, Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani and also a number of senior state and military officials attended the ceremony.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani died on Jan 8, 2017, at the age of 82 due to a heart attack.

Body of the late Expediency Council chairman was laid to rest on January 10 at the mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Republic late Imam Khomeini in southern Tehran.

Rafsanjani, a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and an influential politician, served in different positions in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era.
