Iran ready for worst scenario if US quits JCPOA: Former negotiator

IRNA Iran is ready for the worst scenario if the US withdraws the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and G5+1 (US, UK, Russia, China, France plus Germany) in 2015.

'We are prepared for the worst status not only in the political field but also in the economic field,' Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran's Presidential Office Majid Takht-e Ravanchi said in an exclusive interview with IRNA.

The official referred to Iran's commitment to the JCPOA and said that most of the world states want extension of the nuclear deal.

'We will not be the first country which withdraws the JCPOA,' he said, adding that Islamic Republic will stay in the nuclear deal as long as it benefits from the deal.

The US administration has done a great deal during the past year to kill the JCPOA. Although the international Atomic Energy Agency has confirmed Iran's commitment to the deal eight times, the US President Donald Trump didnt confirm Iran's commitment and sent the deal to the Congress to be decided on.

The Congress couldn't reach a decision in the legal period, so the US president is to announce his decision on January 12 on the issue.
