Iranian speaker's advisor: No peace in Syria with US military presence

FNA - Senior Advisor to Iranian Parliament Speaker Hossein Amir Abdollahian warned that the US military forces' deployment in Syria blocks efforts to establish full security and peace in the war-hit country.

"Peace will never be established in Syria as long as the US is present in that regional country, Amir Abdollahian wrote on his twitter page on Thursday.

His remarks came after Iranian Supreme Leader's top aide for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati warned that Washington is pursuing plots to foment insecurity in Syria and Iraq again.

"The US is after turmoil again in Syria and Iraq, specially in Raqqa," Velayati said on Wednesday.

He stressed that there is no need for the US presence in the region, and said, "Certainly, the Syrian government and people and the resistance front will force the Americans to leave those regions in Syria which have been occupied by them."

Velayati added that the West Asian states are the only ones entitled to be present in the region, and said, "Iran has played an advisory role in Iraq and Syria upon the legal invitation of their governments."

A Syrian Democratic Forces official said in November that the US has established a new military base in the regions that are under the control of the SDF, continuing to occupy Syrian territory.

A senior SDF official, who requested to remain anonymous, said that the US had set up a military base in Raqqa city in Northeastern Syria, which was recently liberated from the ISIL.

"The United States is building military bases in areas freed by our forces from ISIL. We consider it to be the right strategy. Recently, the US forces established a military base at the entrance to the territory of Raqqa, in the Jezra neighborhood," the official added.

He explained that the neighborhood was chosen by the US army because it was slightly damaged during a military operation in Raqqa and can now be seen as the city's safest area.

"The base and the adjacent territory are reliably protected by the US soldiers. No one, except these soldiers and SDF fighters, has access to the base," the official concluded.

Footage released in July revealed that the US was operating an airbase in the Eastern parts of Aleppo near the provincial border with Raqqa.

The footage showed a large US plane taking off and plenty of Humvees protecting the site.

Also, an American flag was hoisted above the air field which was located in the territory controlled by the SDF.
