FIFA chooses Iranian referee for 2018 World Cup

FNA- Iran's international football referee Alireza Faghani has been selected by the international governing body of football (FIFA) to judge the upcoming 2018 Football World Cup slated to be held in Russia.

According to FIFA's official website, Faghani is among six referees representing Asia in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Faghani has judged many international soccer matches in recent years.

A total of 32 countries' national football teams have paved their way to the 2018 World Cup.

The draw for the 2018 World Cup takes place in Russia on December 1 and all the participants are now known.

The 32 soccer teams include Russia, Brazil, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Belgium, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Germany, England, Spain, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Poland, Egypt, Iceland, Serbia, Portugal, France, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Switzerland, Croatia, Sweden, Denmark, Australia and Peru.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be played across 11 cities in Russia from 14 June to 15 July, when the final will be played at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

FIFA has selected 36 match officials (referees and support referees) for the 2018 World Cup in Brazil. They will attend a preparatory seminar on 25-29 November 2017. The final list with specific roles will be announced once IFAB officially approves the use of video assistant referees (VARs) at the World Cup.
