Riyadh’s actions will isolate it from Muslim world: Velayati

Press TV - A high-ranking Iranian official has said that Saudi Arabia’s plots and conspiracies throughout the Arab and Muslim world will eventually result in the kingdom’s isolation.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, made the remarks following a meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis in Damascus on Monday.

“Every day Saudi Arabia is creating plots and conspiracies somewhere in the Arab or Muslim world. These actions will eventually result in the isolation from the Muslim and Arab worlds,” he said.

Velayati’s remarks come shortly after Saudi Arabia ramped up its threats against Iran, saying there will be a response "in the appropriate time and manner," following a missile strike from neighboring Yemen.

The senior advisor added that it would be better if the Saudi government thought more about what would benefit their own country instead of interfering with other nations' affairs.

He also noted that relations between Iran and Syria are deeply rooted in history, and that Tehran has high hopes for furthering these ties. “We have common enemies and we stand together in the battle against terrorism,” he added.

Earlier in the day, following a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, Velayati stressed that Iran and Syria have “fundamental” commonalities vis-à-vis the resistance front and share the objective of safeguarding it in the Middle East.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its Western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups that are wreaking havoc in the country.

Iran is supporting the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in its fight against terrorism. The Islamic Republic has been providing military advisory support for the Syrian forces at the request of Damascus.
