Iran president calls for prosecuting border guards' martyrdom

IRNA Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Monday called for prosecution of those behind martyrdom of border guards who were killed in northwestern Iran on Friday.


'I want the intelligence and security officials to detect and punish those behind this painful crime immediately and decisively,' the President noted.

He offered condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.

In the meantime, Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani underlined giving harsh punishment to those behind martyrdom of border guards.

Eight Iranian border guards were killed in armed clashes with terrorists in Chaldoran border point in West Azarbaijan province, northwestern Iran, on Friday evening.

The 550-km Iran-Turkey joint border is located in West Azarbaijan.
