Civil Defense Chief: US plotting "Combined Threats" against Iran

FNA- Head of Iran's Civil Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali warned that the new US administration is hatching plots to pose a combination of threats against Iran in the economic and cyber space.

"The new US administration has plans to use a series of threats against Iran. We should foresee a serious approach towards this plot," General Jalali told reporters in a press conference in Tehran on Monday.

Noting that the main arena for the US hostilities against Iran is the economic field, he said, "We should design a defensive economic plan to have the capability to confront plots to reimpose sanctions and increase pressures."

General Jalali described cyber threats as another plot hatched by the US against Iran, and said Tehran has estimates about cyber attacks on its infrastructures by Washington as US President Donald Trump also spoke of confrontational cyber measures.

"We are facing serious threats in the cyber space," he warned.

General Jalali had announced in 2011 that Tehran has established an economic and a cyber defense base to counter and decrease enemies' threats to the Iranian security and society.

"The cyber base was launched through cooperation among Iran's Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and Intelligence Ministry to reduce enemy's individual, social and security threats," Jalali said at the time.

He further explained that enemy threats in the field of civil defense include constant psychological operations, soft war, economic threats and cyber attacks, and said enemies' economic attacks on Iran have led to the blockade of the economic activities of a large number of Iranian companies.

General Jalali said the economic defense base was launched in a bid to assess enemies' threats, and stated that due to the emphasis of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Iran's economic progress, the country should strive to focus on this field to identify deficiencies as well as the existing capacities and capabilities to remove these imperfections and flaws.
