Mogherini expecting to see European FMs' strong support for Iran Deal

IRNA High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said on Monday she expected strong backing from European foreign ministers for the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and G5+1 that the US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized.

She said in the foreign ministers meeting held in Luxembourg, Its an agreement that is working. Its an agreement that we need for our security, and I would expect from the ministers today a strong signal of European unity and its support and the full commitment to have it implemented by all sides.'

US President Donald Trump on Friday took a new strategy toward Iran and decertified Tehran's commitment to the 2015 landmark nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Trump's approach has been criticized by many countries, international bodies, political communities and world media.

Minutes after Trump's speech on Friday, Mogherini said, 'Iran nuclear deal is not a bilateral accord and it belongs to no country and no country is able to terminate it'.

In a televised message shortly after Trump's speech, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Trump's remarks were 'nothing but a handful of baseless and empty allegations against the Iranian nation.'
