Sputnik News- Despite Tillerson's and Mattis' efforts to the opposite effect, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley reportedly prepared the ground for not recognizing Iran's compliance with the nuclear deal.

The publication notes that Haley became Trump's "favorite internal voice" onthe Iranian nuclear deal, consolidating her position withthe US president, adding that Haley is viewed asTillerson's possible successor asUS Secretary ofState.


According toPolitico, inJuly, US Secretary ofState Rex Tillerson and Pentagon chief James Mattis convinced Trump toadmit thatIranis incompliance withthe nuclear agreement, also known asthe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA), sincethe US president had no strong arguments todeclare Iran inviolation ofthe JCPOA. However, Haley prepared the groundwork fornot recognizing Iran's compliance, while other members ofthe presidential administration advocated a more cautious approach onthis issue, the magazine said.
"Let me lay a foundation forit," Haley told Trump duringa July meeting, asquoted bythe Politico's source familiar withthe proceedings, and the president responded approvingly.

In a speech onFriday, US President Donald Trump said his administration has decided not tocertify Iran's compliance withtheJCPOA, buthas not challenged Iran's compliance withthe deal atthe international level. Trump also said that the White House would work withthe country's Congress and the United States' allies tofix the "many serious flaws" ofthe agreement withIran, and promised that the US would impose new sanctions againstIran forsupporting terrorism.
