IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif says diplomacy is the only solution to Syrian crisis.
‘Iran takes diplomacy in line with the UN Security Council resolution 2254 as the only solution to Syrian crisis. To address the goal, all of us should admit the fact with a firm resolve,’ Zarif made the remarks in a speech to a meeting on Syria, held on an initiative by the EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
He said since the beginning, Iran believed that diplomacy is the only solution to Syrian crisis.
While referring to achievements gained over the past one year to check conflicts in Syria in tune with Astana accord, Zarif voiced pleasure with deployment of international observers in the country.
He said presence of the observers will not only help scale down clashes but also help humanitarian assistance. The minister urged double efforts in that connection by all countries.
‘We still believe that diplomatic solution in line with the principles envisioned in the UN Security Council resolution 2254 is the only way to end the human nightmare. We insist establishment of ceasefire and collective campaign against terrorism, believing that considerable achievements have been gained in that connection. The requisite for Syrian crisis is a government and dialogue among all Syrian parties, resulting in a diplomatic solution and holding fresh round of elections in the country.’
‘That’s the only way out of the Syrian crisis. Along with the efforts, one of the grave duties shouldered by global community is to raise hope among Syrian people for peace and future. I believe all of us, especially organizers of this meeting, can play an effective role in materialization of the future for Syrian people.’
He underlined that to meet the goal, all should firmly believe in the reality that there is no solution to Syrian crisis but diplomacy.
