Bomb blown up in controlled explosion in Iran

Press TV - Iranian security forces have blown up a bomb that was found in a central city in a controlled explosion.

A suspected explosive device was found planted underneath a vehicle in the city of Najafabad, in the central Isfahan Province, on Sunday night.

Speaking to the Iranian Tasnim news agency on Monday, Seifollah Rashidzadeh, a commander with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), confirmed the news.

He explained that IRGC forces were deployed to the area after police received reports about a suspicious car parked in a residential area. Upon confirmation that a suspected explosive device was attached to the car, an IRGC bomb disposal squad was deployed to the area, where a security cordon was set up.

Later, however, a decision was made to remove the device from the area because of security risks, according to Rashidzadeh, who said the package was taken to an uninhabited location outside the city and detonated in a controlled explosion.

The city is secure and everything is under control, he said.

It was not immediately clear who was responsible for planting the bomb.
