JCPOA, a test for Europe: Iranian official

IRNA – JCPOA is a touchstone for Europe to show its real stance toward US, Head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said.

Kamal Kharrazi made the remarks Monday in a meeting of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, an advisory body on foreign affairs to Iran’s supreme leader.

‘European countries status has been clear so far in supporting Iran nuclear deal also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),’ he said.

‘Iran and Europe are developing relations and Iran has expressed its readiness in prmoting stability in the region,’ Kharrazi said.

‘Iran has indicated its peace-making role by supporting Syrian and Iraqi governments,’ he added.

Commenting on a question whether Iran continues with JCPOA even after US withdrawal, he said it depends on other parties’ stances.

He went to say that against the United Nations Charter, US is trying to stabilize its place as a superpower in the world and the UN has turned out to be an ineffective body.

He urged UN to modify its Charter and said the organization is responsible for creating peace.

Regarding Iran-France ties, Kharrazi pointed to France stance on Iranian Simorq satellite carrier and stressed on the fact that Simorq was not capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

France measure to sign the statement against Simorq raised a question in Iranians minds since launching Simorq was not contrary to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, he added.

Iranian official also criticized France for hosting the terrorist group called People’s Mujahedin of Iran (MKO) that has killed 13,000 Iranians.

Iran is a stable and influential country in the region and it would be good for France to establish better relation with Iran, Kharrazi said.

Inauguration of Imam Khomeini Space Center (IKSC) officially started with tentative launching of Simorgh satellite carrier into the space on July 27.
