Pakistani FM arrives in Tehran
MNA Pakistans Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asifheading a high-ranking delegation has arrived in Tehran to confer with Iranian officials on regional and international issues, including the US new strategy in Afghanistan.


Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asifhas arrived in Tehran Monday morning for a one-day visit to confer with Iranian officials on political and economic relations as well as the latest international and regional developments.

National Security AdvisorofPakistan Nasser Khan Janjua, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, and Additional Secretary (United Nationsand Economic Cooperation) Tasneem Aslam are accompanying the Pakistani foreign minister on this trip.

Khawaja Muhammad Asifis slated for talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and President Hassan Rouhani.

Tehran is Asifs second destination of his regional tour aimed at holding consultations on US new strategy in Afghanistan and south of Asia.

US President Trumps new strategy in Afghanistan prolongs the presence of American troops in the South Asian country for another four years, and also increases their number by 3,900, adding to some 11,000 US forces already there.

The Pakistani diplomatic delegation will leave Tehran in the evening for a pilgrimage trip to Mashhad, and depart for Islamabad Monday night. This is his first visit to Tehran as Pakistans foreign minister.

Asif had held talks with Chinese officials on US new plan in Afghanistan on Thursday and Friday. He will next visit Turkey as the third leg of his regional tour on Tuesday.
