Iran, Turkey stress broadening of defense cooperation

FNA- Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour and his Turkish counterpart General Salih Zeki olak in a meeting in Ankara on Sunday underlined the need for expanding mutual cooperation in defense and military fields.

During the meeting in the Turkish capital today, the Iranian and Turkish commanders explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating defensive ties.

During the meeting, General Pakpour said that there are many capacities which can help the two countries to broaden their relations.

During his visit to Ankara, General Mohammad Pakpour also held talks with Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Army General Hulusi Akar.

General Pakpour accompanied Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri on his three-day trip to Turkey.

Iranian officials discussed the most important regional developments, fighting terrorism and border cooperation with their Turkish counterparts.

The chiefs of staff of the Iranian and Turkish armed forces also agreed to strengthen bilateral and regional security cooperation.

General Baqeri also met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss regional developments and bilateral ties.

Before meeting Erdogan, General Baqeri had met Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli on Wednesday.
