Tremor jolts western Hamedan province

IRNA An earthquake measuring 4.7 on Richter scale rocked Nahavand in western province of Hamedan early Friday.


According to the seismological center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 05:34 hours local time (01:04 GMT Friday) in an area located at 48.42 degrees longitude and 34.18 degrees latitude and in the depth of two kilometers.

There was no immediate report on the possible damage caused by the earthquake.

Iran sits astride several major faults in the earth's crust and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
