Iraqi province urges opening 2nd border crossing with Iran

IRNA Council of Iraqi Province of Maysan called for opening a second border crossing with Iran as well as expanding academic cooperation and attracting Iranian investment in the province.

Irans ambassador to Iraq in a visit to the southern Iraqi Province Maysan on Thursday met with the head and members of the Provincial Council at the capital city Amarah.

In the meeting the members of the council invited Iranian companies to invest in the agriculture and road building sectors, and called for academic cooperation between the universities of the province and Iran.

They also urged opening a crossing with Irans Khuzestan Province at Sheeb-Chazzabeh border point as the second crossing between Maysan and Iran to expand the bilateral ties.

The envoy in the meeting reassured that the Iranian embassy would try to boost ties with Iran, including those with Maysan Province.

Pointing to Irans emphasis on cooperation with all Iraqi social communities and provinces, he described unity among Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen and Christians as necessary for advancing Iraqs goals.

Iran is a supporter of Iraqi government and considers cooperation with Maysan, as a neighboring province, important, Masjedi affirmed.

The envoy also called on the Iraqi side to open the doors to Iranian investors and firms and urged clearing the way for more cooperation.
