Envoy: Iran, Iraq enjoy firm ties

IRNA Iran's ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi said on Wednesday that Iran and Iraq enjoy strong relations.

Masjedi made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi provincial officials of Babel city on Wednesday.

He stressed the fact that Iran-Iraq security is intertwined and 'we are honored to stand by Iraqi government and people in fighting Daesh Takfiri group.'

He extended congratulations on Mosul liberation, saying Islamic Republic of Iran shares the happiness with Iraqis.

He pointed to launching reconstruction projects in Iraq, noting Iran will stand by Iraqis to reconstruct the country.

Mosul fell in June 2014, when Daesh in an attack took control of the city. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul on October 16, 2016.

The eastern part of Mosul was recaptured from Daesh in about three months and the most populated part of the city, known as the Old City of Mosul, in the western bank of Tigris River was liberated in recent days.

Iraq and Syria have been targeted by Daesh and other extremist groups supported by West and some regional counties.
