Iran congratulates heavy defeat of Daesh in Mosul

IRNA Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi congratulated heavy defeat sustained by Daesh in Mosul and called for collective campaign to dry up the terrorist group's intellectual roots and its sources of funding.

Qasemi congratulated the Iraqi nation and government, Shia source of emulation, scholars of all religions, tribes and armed forces and volunteer fighters on the heavy defeat of Daesh in its self-proclaimed capital which took place due to the resistance of the Iraqi nation and government as well as braveries of popular forces and volunteer fighters in the country.

Wishing consolidation of security, peace and welfare for the Iraqi nation within an integrated, democratic and cohesive Iraq, the official stressed the need for collective regional battle to dry up intellectual roots and financial sources of terrorism in Iraq and region.

He also voiced Irans readiness for helping the regional nations and governments until full eradication of remnants of terrorists.

After heavy and door-to-door battles for 12 days in Mosul, Iraqi forces captured on Thursday the wrecked historic mosque of Mosul in which Daesh terrorist group proclaimed its self-styled 'caliphate' three years ago.

Taking the Grand al-Nuri Mosque gives a symbolic victory to the Iraqi forces who have been battling for more than eight months to capture Mosul, the northern city that served as Daesh's de-facto capital in Iraq.
