Russia starts production of equipment for Iran's Bushehr NPP

Sputnik - Russia launched production of equipment necessary for the construction of new reactors at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, President of JSC NIAEP-holding Company of JSC Atomstroyexport (JSC ASE), the project's general contractor, Valery Limarenko told Sputnik on Monday.


MOSCOW (Sputnik) The company's president added that a number ofdeals related tolong-lead equipment were expected tobe signed inthe nearfuture.


"The contracts forthe production ofa melt localization device, the so-called core catcher, forthe second and third NPP reactors have already been signed. Moreover, the manufacturer has already started toproduce this complex equipment," Limarenko said atthe IXth International Forum ATOMEXPO 2017, adding that contracts ondeliveries ofequipment formachinery rooms were also signed.

According toLimarenko, the issue ofpurchasing the NPP steam generators and the automation systems oftechnological process control was also onthe agenda.
"This is a difficult and detailed work, which involves a large number ofAtomstroyexport specialists, the main purpose ofwhich is tosupply the equipment intime. Such approach will allow reducing the period ofconstruction, asthe equipment will be delivered directly tothe installation area," Limarenko said.


The Bushehr-2 construction deal, which had initiated the construction and installation ofthe second and the third reactors atthe southern Iran site, was signed byRussia and Iran inNovember 2014. The deal also included the option ofbuilding six more reactors inthe future.

In December 2016, Tehran transferred toRussia the first tranche tofinance the building ofthe second stage ofthe Bushehr NPP. According toRussia's state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom, construction and installation works underBushehr-2 project began onMarch 14, 2017.
