UNESCO director general strongly denounces Tehran terror attacks

IRNA United Nations Educational, Scientific, Cultural Organizatio (UNESCO) Director General Irina Bokova in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani strongly condemned the barbaric terrorist attacks in Tehran and expressed solidarity with the Iranian government and people.

In part of the message, the UNESCO chief said she was shocked and deeply grieved to hear the news about the terror attacks in Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini and Parliament building.

She expressed condolences to the families of victims and the Iranian government and people.

Bokova also stressed the need for global resolve to uproot terrorism and violent extremism.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of UNESCO Executive Board Michael Worbs in a separate message to Irans ambassador to the UNESCO expressed solidarity with the Iranian people and government over the terrorist attacks in Tehran.

Deploring the attacks, he said that these coward crimes are committed out of disappointment.

Earlier on Wednesday, twin simultaneous attacks hit the parliament and Mausoleum of Imam Khomeini in the south of Tehran, killing 17 and wounding 52 more.

The terrorist group of Daesh (the ISIS terrorist group) has claimed responsibility for the fatal attacks in Tehran.
