Sputnik - The office of French President Emmanuel Macron said that the reelection of Hassan Rouhani as Iranian President gives hope for the country's compliance with the nuclear deal.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) The reelection ofHassan Rouhani asIranian President gives hope forthe country's compliance withthe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA) aimed atsettlement ofthe Iranian nuclear issue, the office ofFrench President Emmanuel Macron said ina statement.
"The reelection ofPresident Rouhani strengthens the hope that his government will abide accurately bythe historic agreement ofJuly 14, 2015, which allowed toregulate throughthe diplomatic means the disagreements onthe nuclear issue and toengage inthe new stage ofthe relations betweenIran and the international community. France, inturn, will continue toexercise vigilance overthe strict implementation of [the agreement's] elements," the statement distributed byMacron's press office read.


In the document, the French president congratulated his Iranian counterpart onthe reelection and expressed hope forthe improvement ofthe economic, scientific and cultural ties betweenTehran and Paris.

Apart fromthis, Macron called onIran tocontribute tothe settlement ofthe crises inthe Middle East.

"Adhering tothe development ofthe political dialogue withIran, France reiterates the necessity ofthe diplomatic regulation ofthe conflicts inthe Middle East and urges Iran toparticipate init," the statement stressed.

Signed in2015, JCPOA is effective sinceJanuary 2016. The agreement betweenIran and P5+1 countries (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, United States plus Germany) stipulates the suspension ofthe nuclear weapons development byTehran inexchange forgradual lifting ofthe economic and diplomatic sanctions imposed onIran bythe Western countries.

Rouhani was reelected forthe second term with57 percent ofvotes atthe election which took place inIran onFriday.
