Sputnik News- Following a recent terrorist attack on Iranian border guards, Tehran has warned neighboring Pakistan that it will carry out anti-terrorist operations in Pakistan if Islamabad doesn't stop its territory from being used by terrorists.

A terrorist attack onIranian guards atthe country's southwestern border withPakistan has strained relations betweenthe neighbors.

On April 26, ten guards were murdered and three injured inthe border town ofMirjaveh, inIran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

The terrorists who carried outthe attack fled intothe territory ofPakistan, and the Pakistani authorities are yet tobring them tojustice.

Chief ofStaff forthe Armed Forces ofthe Islamic Republic ofIran, Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, has threatened military action onPakistani territory, unless the authorities take action toapprehend terrorists operating there.

"Unfortunately, the Pakistani border area has turned intoa refuge and training ground forterrorists hired bySaudi Arabia, withthe approval ofthe United States."
"The situation that exists atour joint border is completely unacceptable tous. We expect the Pakistani authorities totake control ofthe border, arrest and extradite terrorists, and destroy their bases. If the attacks [from Pakistani territory] continue, terrorist hideaways and camps will be subjected todevastating strikes, wherever they may be," Bagheri said.

Iran has enjoyed a good relationship withits southeastern neighbor fordecades, butthe intervention ofneighboring Saudi Arabia has upset bilateral relations, Emad Abshenass, editor-in-chief ofIran Press, told Sputnik.

"From the establishment ofthe Islamic Republic ofPakistan tothis day, Iran has had sincere and friendly relations withits south-eastern neighbor. Unfortunately, a third party has had a hand inthis latest incident Saudi Arabia."
"Aiming todrive a wedge betweenour countries, Riyadh has financed political and military structures inIslamabad withthe aim ofcreating camps forterrorists inPakistan, which can atany time be directed tothe eastern borders ofIran withan extremist 'mission.' Their ultimate goal is topenetrate deep intoIran and undermine the country's security system," Abshenass declared.

"Of course, Iranians are concerned aboutthis problem and expect the Pakistani authorities tonevertheless take control oftheir side ofthe border. It is noteworthy that terrorists have training grounds right inPakistani territory [but] atthe same time, the Pakistani army has the potential toeliminate all these camps and terrorist bases. According tothe spirit ofinternational law, the government ofPakistan should not allow extremists tohave training grounds, military bases and secret shelters onits territory fromwhich neighboring states can be attacked."

If Iran suffers another terrorist attack fromPakistani territory, then it will be forced toretaliate withmilitary force, the journalist warned.
"According toall international norms and laws, inthe case ofanother terrorist attack Iran has the right totake measures, particularly sincePakistan has been given all the relevant warnings. In addition, there are certain bilateral agreements that give Iran the right totake action inorder toensure security tocross the border and pursue terrorists untilthey are defeated. In addition, Iran has the right todestroy all the known camps and hideaways ofthese terrorists."

Iran has been forced totake similar action inthe pastat its border withIraq, Abshenass said.

"When Daesh terrorists took the Iraqi city ofMosul, they didn't head toBaghdad butto Erbil, so they could get closer tothe Iranian border. However, soldiers and volunteers fromour country repelled them. If they hadn't, terrorists might be inour country already. In this and similar cases, the Islamic Republic [of Iran] is simply adhering tothe principle ofpreserving national security."
"Today, Iran has given political and military warnings toits neighbors, and these warnings should inno way be regarded asa threat ofaggression or military attack byIran againstits neighbor. However, if this neighbor is not able toensure security inthe region and eliminate the threats that exist, inthis case Iran will simply have toguarantee security itself," Abshenass said.
