Saudi Arabia increases Irans Hajj quota by 35%

Middle East Monitor- Saudi Arabia has increased by 35 per cent the number of pilgrims Iran can send to Hajj this year, the head of Irans Hajj and Pilgrimage Organisation, Hamid Mohammadi, said yesterday.


Nearly 64,000 Iranian pilgrims participated in the Hajj season two years ago but this year and with the efforts of the Iranian negotiating delegation, the percentage of Iranian pilgrims who will participate in the next season has been increased by 35 per cent, Irans Tasnim news agency quoted Mohammadi as saying.


The official said some 86,500 Iranian pilgrims will participate in this years Hajj season.


He pointed out that Iran and Saudi Arabia have reached good arrangements regarding the Hajj season adding that teams of Iranian experts will visit Saudi Arabia to complete the arrangements.


Iran stopped sending people on Hajj after nearly 500 Iranians died in a stampede in 2015.
