Homs governor slams US missile strikes as serving terrorists goals

TASS - The US missile strikes on a military airfield in Syrias Homs province serve the goals of "armed terrorist groups," the governor of the province told the Al Ikhbaria TV channel.

"Syrian leadership and Syrian policy wont change," Talal Barazi said. "This is not the first attack and I don't believe it will be the last," he added.

"There are killed and wounded in the US strike against al-Shayrat military airfield in central Syria," he said.

The governor earlier said that the military base attacked by the United States played an important role in the fight against terrorists, particularly, in the operation to liberate Palmyra.

At least four Syrian military servicemen have been kililed in the US strike against al-Shayrat military airfield in Homs province, the Al Arabiya TV channel reported.

According to incoming data, the military bases infrastructure has been almost completely destroyed by the attack. There has been no official confirmation from Damascus yet.

On Thursday, the US military launched a total of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Shayrat Airfield in Homs governorate, Pentagon Spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said.

The strike came in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian province of Idlib on April 4. Reuters earlier reported citing the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that 58 people, including 11 children, were killed there.

The US leadership believes the alleged chemical attack had been carried out from the Shayrat Airfield.
