Iran, S. Arabia finalizing talks on annual Hajj: official

IRNA -- Supreme Leaders representative in Hajj and pilgrimage affairs Hojjatoleslam Ali Ghazi Asgar said on Monday that talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia on the annual Hajj pilgrimage are in final stages.

Ghazi Asgar described the course of talks between Tehran and Riyadh on Hajj pilgrimage as appropriate.

He expressed hope that the agreements between the two countries will pave the way for holding a proper, calm and honorable Hajj.

Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia became tense following the stampede tragedy during annual Hajj two years ago in which 464 Iranian pilgrims lost their lives.

The two countries severed relations after angry Iranian protesters stormed Saudi embassy in Tehran following the execution of a senior Shiite cleric by Saudi officials.
