Tasnim � Iranian Deputy Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Brigadier General Alireza Tamizi underlined that sports have the potential to convey various messages among countries, including message of peace and friendship.

�Today, sports are known as an important political and social factor,� Brigadier General Alireza Tamizi said, addressing the 5th conference of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) in Tehran on Monday.

�Sports have a potential to convey various messages, including message of peace and friendship among countries,� the deputy minister said.

He went on to say that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that sports can be used as a tool to promote cultural ties, boost security in the world, and�resolve disputes caused by excessive demands of some countries.

The CISM, one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world, is in charge of organizing various sporting events for the armed forces of its 134 member countries.

CISM annually holds over 20 Military World Championships for approximately 30 different sports, continental and regional competitions, the Military World Games and most recently Winter Games and World Cadet Games. CISM also invests in sport for peace activities and solidarity as one of its main initiatives.
