We should do everything we can for a calm election, General Ashtari said on Saturday.
Stressing the importance of adopting pre-emptive measures in the face of potential threats, he said the countrys security forces should remain vigilant to confront any possible move aimed at sabotaging the presidential election, due to be held in May.
Good coordination with other security forces and organizations has always worked and can play a key role in ensuring the safety of the elections, the Iranian general further said.
Last month, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said that in his meeting with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader had stressed the need for plans to ensure the security of the election by upholding the rule of law and attract the maximum number of voters.
In the last presidential election in 2013, more than 70 percent of 50 million eligible voters cast their ballots.
